POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have launched a murder investigation into the death of a woman after her body was discovered in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh yesterday.

A PSNI spokesperson said police had first received a report that a man was involved in a collision on the Carn Road at around 9:15pm last night. When officers arrived at the scene, they located the car but the driver had left the scene.

They found the address the car was registered to and made their way to the house.

When they arrived, they discovered the body of a woman in her 20s. Shortly afterwards they arrested a 45-year-old man near the scene on suspicion of murder and other related offences.

He remains in custody.

“Our detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, and I am appealing to anyone with information that could assist with our investigation to come forward,” Detective Chief Inspector Gary Robinson, from the Major Investigation Team, said.

The PSNI extended their condolences to the woman’s family and friends.

Superintendent Pete Cunningham said he wanted to reassure the local community that detectives are “working at pace” and urged the public not to speculate.
