FIVE PEOPLE HAVE been arrested this morning in relation to the murder of 21-year-old Lorcan O’Reilly.
Three men and two women, aged in their late teens and early 20s, were arrested in the Dublin area at around 6:30am.
A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that they are being held in various garda stations across the city.
The young man was stabbed on Halloween night after he stepped in to stop a fight.
The incident happened at the Oliver Bond flats complex in Dublin 8 shortly before 2:45am. O’Reilly was taken to St James’ Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Speaking to the media after the death, Superintendent Paddy McMenamin said:
Lorcan was a 21 year old man. He came from the locality, a very respectable, decent young man from a respectable family in the community and the family are devastated by his tragic death.
Thirty detectives have been working on the murder investigation with searches conducted at the scene, witnesses being interviewed and door-to-door enquiries being conducted.
