Two men to appear in court tonight charged in connection with fire at Drogheda Ipas centre

The two men were arrested this morning by investigators and have since been charged.

LAST UPDATE | 6 Nov 2025

TWO MEN in their 20s who were arrested as part of garda investigations into the alleged arson at an Ipas centre in Drogheda last week have been charged.

They are due to appear before a special sitting of Drogheda District Court tonight at 9pm.

The garda probe followed the incident at the Drogheda Ipas centre attacked on Friday night last, 31 October.

CCTV footage from the centres appears to show a man setting the stairs alight.

Firefighters rescued five people, including a baby, from the top floor of the building in the town’s George’s Street area.

As a result of the blaze, 28 residents are now homeless and being housed in emergency accommodation.

The CCTV footage shows a man wearing a dark blue puffer jacket with his hood up and gloves setting the stairs alight before leaving the centre through the front door.

One man had been arrested by gardaí last night, while the other was arrested this morning, both for alleged offences under the Criminal Damage Act 1991.
