EACH WEEK AS part of our new Home Magazine, we will be asking Irish people with a passion for interiors about their favourite spot in their home.

Saoirse Findlay and her partner moved into their Cork home in October 2017, with decorating and finishing the house giving Saoirse “the creative outlet she needs”.

This week, stay-at-home mum Saoirse (@shinnyscaf) chatted us through the room in her house that she’s most proud of: her bedroom.

What do you love about your bedroom?

This is my favourite part of the house because it’s the most complete. It wasn’t really what I had in mind for this room at the start, but as time went on a particular style pattern started to emerge so I just went with it.

I would say my style is eclectic. It’s a nice way of saying that I like too many styles and can’t commit to one in particular!

Talk us through some of the objects in the photo.

I suppose the amount of cushions I have on the bed is the most prominent feature. I got asked the other day on Instagram: “Are they really practical for everyday living?” The bloody cheek!

The headboard is metal so you need them to lean on and they look cosy. They’re mostly from TK Maxx and Penneys. The prints on the wall and above the bed are from an Irish-owned small business called Lady Gray Graphics.

When we first moved in, this was the only bed we could afford. It’s from IKEA and it was €99. I liked how the white iron popped against the blue. After that, I love adding pops of colour and contrasting textures. I change it around now again by the interchanging prints and cushions so I never get bored.

What was your inspiration when you were putting the room together?

I always knew when I was planning this room that I wanted a dark colour. I love the way the light hits it and in the evenings it’s very cosy. The paint is Farrow and Ball Hague Blue.

How well does this photo reflect the rest of your home?

The rest of the house is in a similar mish-mash fashion of inherited furniture and IKEA upcycled bits. This room is definitely the most styled, as the toddler doesn’t get in here that often so we can afford to have nice things on display more.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

This photo has been cleaned and styled within an inch of its life. No one wants to see dirty socks on the floor. Don’t be fooled by the manicured Instagram pictures. They are the highlights and not the everyday reality.

It would stay like this if no one lived here. Rest assured, five minutes after any photo is taken for Instagram, chaos ensues.
