Rain warning issued for three counties (and wintry showers and snow might be on the way)

The warning for counties Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow will come into effect at 12am on Tuesday and remain in place until 6pm that evening.

A STATUS YELLOW rain warning has been issued for three south east counties on Tuesday.

Met Éireann said outbreaks of rain will turn heavy at times, with the possibility for localised flooding and difficult travel conditions.

The warning for counties Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow will come into effect at 12am on Tuesday and remain in place until 6pm that evening.

A rain warning for Northern Ireland will also come into effect from 6am to 3pm on Tuesday.

The national forecaster said areas of low pressure will bring more unsettled weather throughout next week.

It will be cold and breezy at times with heavy rain that will possibly turn wintry at times.

Tomorrow will be another dull and wet day with widespread rain that will persist for the afternoon before gradually clearing eastwards. It will also be breezy, with highs of 4 to 10 degrees.

Persistent rain will linger over the east and northeast tomorrow night. Clear and dry conditions elsewhere will become widespread as that rain gradually clears, allowing for frost and ice to form and temperatures falling to -2 to 1 degrees.

Tuesday morning will feel cold and crisp with frost and ice patches accompanying some early sun in the west. Wet and windy weather will feed in from the east throughout the morning and afternoon.

Met Éireann said rain will turn heavy at times and possibly wintry too, with any falls of snow most likely on higher ground. Temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees in the daytime, but it will feel extra cold because of “very brisk easterly or cyclonic variable winds”.

There will be showery outbreaks of rain overnight on Tuesday, with any snow being confined to higher ground and lowest temperatures of -1 to 3 degrees.

There’ll be another cold day in store on Wednesday with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle with patches of mist and fog also possible too. The rain will gradually clear northwards throughout the day, allowing drier spells to develop over southern counties. Highs of 4 to 9 degrees.
