Man due in court after pensioner seriously assaulted during burglary

The 69-year-old was found with serious head injuries, lying on the floor of the house.

A MAN IS due in court this morning in connection with a burglary and serious assault in the Rialto area of Dublin.

It happened in the early hours of yesterday morning at a house on St. Anthony’s Road. Gardaí were called to the scene at around 1.25am following reports of intruders inside.

Upon arrival, they found a 69-year-old lying on the floor, suffering with serious head injuries.

An ambulance was called in, and officers began a search of the area. Shortly afterwards, a 23-year-old man was arrested nearby at Herberton Road.

He’s been held for questioning at Kilmainham Garda Station, and is listed to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Parkgate Street later this morning.

The injured man was taken for treatment to nearby St James’s Hospital. His injuries are said to be serious but not life-threatening.
