Tusla confirms father and son found dead in west Dublin 'were known' to agency

The 11-year-old boy, Oisín O’Reilly, is suspected to have been killed by his father Wayne.

LAST UPDATE | 13 hrs ago

THE FATHER AND son found dead at two separate houses in west Dublin have been named.

The 11-year-old boy, Oisín O’Reilly, is suspected to have been killed by his father Wayne.

Tusla confirmed earlier that both of them were known to the agency.

It is understood investigators found the bodies in Clondalkin and Ballyfermot.

Gardaí have sealed off the two locations where the bodies were found.

Sources have said that the gardaí are not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths, but said that the boy died violently. It is believed the man murdered the child.

It is understood that there was a missing persons incident last year involving the father and son and this will form part of the enquiry.

Tusla has told The Journal this evening that it was aware of the boy before his death.

“Tusla, Child and Family Agency, can confirm that we were advised earlier today of the death of a young boy in Dublin South City.

“The death of a child is a tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family, all those who knew him, and the local community at this difficult time. This young boy was not in the care of the state, however he and his family were known to Tusla.

“We continue to engage with An Garda Síochána as they conduct their investigation, and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time,” a spokesman said.

A garda spokesman confirmed the incident and said that investigations are underway.

“Gardaí and emergency services were called to a domestic residence in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot this morning at approximately 8:30am. A body of a male (aged in his 40s) was discovered deceased at the scene.

“In follow-up enquiries the body of a male child was discovered at a domestic residence in Clondalkin. Both locations have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

“The Coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.

“The body of the male adult has been removed from the scene to the city morgue. The body of the male child remains at the scene. Post-mortem examinations will be arranged in due course,” the spokesman said.

Local Councillor Daithí Doolan has spoken of the shock of the local community as news filtered through today of the horrific incident.

“This is deeply distressing news. The whole community is in shock. We offer our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased. The family are in our thoughts at this awful time,” Doolan said.

“There is a long and painful journey ahead for this family, but this community will support them every step of the way.

“I would appeal to people not to speculate on social media, as this can often cause further pain for grieving families. But, if anyone has any information to please come forward and contact the gardaí and help them with their investigation,” he said.
