9-year-old boy critical after falling into sea near Blackhead lighthouse

The young boy was rescued last night after spending an hour in the water.

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy was pulled from the sea, an hour after he fell in off the coast of Clare yesterday.

He was brought to hospital, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Doolin Coast Guard were tasked at 9.15pm yesterday following reports that a person was in the water near Blackhead.

The alarm was raised when the child fell into the sea close to the lighthouse, where a number of people were fishing.

The Shannon Coast Guard Rescue helicopter was also tasked for the mission.

The boy was located “quickly” and recovered from the water to the boat. CPR was initiated before he was transferred to the helicopter and airlifted to Galway University Hospital, where he is still being treated.

The Clare Herald reports that the young boy was fishing with his father and another man when the incident occurred.
