Two men detained over brutal assault on elderly woman (90) in home raid

Eva Sutton was beaten by two raiders in an attack that lasted more than an hour.

TWO MEN IN their 20s have been arrested in connection with a brutal attack on an elderly woman in the course of a burglary at her home in Co Wicklow in September of this year.

Two raiders broke into Eva Sutton’s Bray home at around 5am on Thursday 10 September.

She was beaten by the men in an assault that lasted more than an hour, and was treated for a broken nose, punctured lung and numerous broken ribs in St Vincent’s Hospital on the southside of Dublin.

Gardaí later said the men had kicked in her front door.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed this evening that two men – aged 21 and 23 – were arrested this morning and have been taken for questioning to Bray Garda Station. They’re being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Locals said they were angry and horrified in the wake of the attack, with many signing messages of goodwill in books and organising flowers and gifts to be delivered to the hospital.

The home in which the pensioner was attacked was later put up for sale.
