IT EMERGED RECENTLY that some rural parts of Ireland may have to wait another six years before the roll-out of broadband.
As it is, internet speeds across the country vary hugely but even our capital city ranks low by European standards.
Though a recent study found Ireland has the second fastest internet connection in the world, our average downloads speeds tell a different story.
Dublin has the 15th fastest average download speed. The average speed of 39.43 Mbps compares to Bucharest’s impressive speed of 80.14.
As the infograph above shows, Paris and Vilnius also rank highly.
However we did manage to beat our neighbours in the UK who have an average download speed of 25.44 Mbps.
The capital cities of Greece and Cyrpus have the most dire results with average speeds of less than 10 Mbps.
