POSITIONED ON THE south-facing slopes of Crownarad Mountain and with undisturbed sea views, Bumblebee Cottage in Co Donegal looks as if it has come straight out of a fairy tale.
With Fintra Beach just a short stroll away, the picturesque cottage boasts views of the Atlantic Ocean and rolling green countryside.
The two-bed property was extensively refurbished in 2016 and 2017 to enhance both its interior and exterior. As part of the refurbishments, Bumblebee Cottage was re-thatched with the support of the Heritage Council.
Inside, the charm of many of its original characteristics has been retained. A hardwood door leads to the open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, where there’s reclaimed oak flooring throughout. A vaulted wooden ceiling with exposed trusses adds a sense of space, while an imported 19th century sandstone fireplace is sure to heat the home on even the coldest winter days.
The bespoke hardwood country-style kitchen matches the design of the property perfectly, with cast iron thumb latches and exposed hinges, teak worktops and a built-in Belfast sink.
The property features two double bedrooms, each with reclaimed oak flooring and a wooden ‘Z’ frame door, while one bedroom has a feature vaulted ceiling. There’s a single bathroom in the cottage which has a bespoke wooden vanity unit, a wooden-panelled bath and a waterfall shower head. A new addition to the cottage, there’s also a storage and utility room with tiled floors, and space for a washing machine and dryer.
Outside, there’s a picnic table to the front of the cottage overlooking the sea’s picturesque views. Killybegs town is less than a 10-minute drive away, while a primary school and GAA club are both just a 15-minute walk from the property.
