A MAN HAS stabbed ten schoolchildren in southern China, severely injuring two of them, before taking his own life, according to state media reports.
The Reuters news service reports that the man stabbed six boys and four girls outside a school in the city of Haikou.
Quoting a report by state broadcaster CCTV, Reuters said the children were taken to hospital for treatment. Two are being treated for serious wounds, but none of their injuries are life-threatening.
The South China Morning Post reports that the pupils were lining up at the school gates before being allowed out at lunchtime when the man approached them.
The children were all aged around eight.
The paper reports that the man was seen lying in a lane near the school, unconscious, in the wake of the attack, and that it was believed he had taken his own life.
