ONE IN THREE Irish adults donated to a Christmas appeal in 2014 – more than the previous year.

The average donation to charity over the period was €12.50. That was up from €10 in 2013. Charities are hoping that average will increase this year, as high-profile scandals that surrounded certain organisations fade from public memory.
