Man remains in custody in connection with alleged stabbing incident involving woman in Cork

A man was arrested at the scene.

A MAN IN his 20s remains in garda custody in connection with a stabbing incident involving a woman in Cork city. 

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at around 7pm in the Churchyard Lane area of Ballinlough on the south side of the city. 

It is understood that a woman in her 20s was stabbed by a man who is known to her.

He is said to have waited in a vehicle for her to return to Ballinlough. 

Three passersby came to her assistance, and the woman was treated by paramedics at the scene. 

She was subsequently transferred to Cork University Hospital.

Her injuries were non-life threatening, and she has since been discharged from hospital. 

A man was arrested at the scene. 

He is being detained at a garda station in Cork and can be detained for up to 24 hours before being released or charged.
