Cyclist (70s) killed in Balbriggan crash with truck

The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, was arrested.

A MAN IN his 70s has died after he was struck by a truck while cycling in Balbriggan this afternoon. 

The crash occurred this afternoon on Dublin Street in the Co Dublin town. Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision at around 12:40pm.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, was arrested.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged, gardaí said.

The scene remains preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road is currently closed.

Local traffic diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
