The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s, and the driver of the bus, a man in his 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A teenage girl who was travelling in the car was initially brought to our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A number of people, including several passengers aboard the bus, have also been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.

Bus Éireann confirmed in a statement that a route 101 bus was involved in the collision.

This evening, the company said: “A number of our passengers also remain in hospital. Emergency services and Bus Éireann personnel remain at the scene.”

Bus Éireann CEO Jean O’Sullivan said the company is “devastated by this tragic incident”.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of our Bus Éireann driver who has sadly lost his life, and with the family and friends of the driver of the other vehicle who also passed away.

“The loss of a colleague is a shock to everyone across Bus Éireann – our thoughts are very much with our colleague’s family, friends and the many co-workers who are devastated at the loss.”

O’Sullivan said the company was also thinking of the other driver’s family, passengers on the bus, and the occupants of the third vehicle.

Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien said he is “deeply shocked and saddened” by the incident.

“I would like to commend the first responders who are attending the scene today for their hard work and professionalism in difficult circumstances,” the Minister said, and added that his Department is in close contact with Bus Éireanna dn the National Transport Authority.

Sinn Féin TD for Meath East, Darren O’Rourke, paid tribute to the victims of the crash, describing the incident as ”devastating news”.

“This shocking news comes just over a week after the devastating crash that took the lives of five young people in Dundalk,” O’Rourke said.

“I know our local communities will rally around in support of those involved in the collision and their families who no doubt will be in a complete state of shock at this time.

“We must stand in solidarity with the families during this devastating time,” O’Rourke added.

The R132 is closed as a result of the collision, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses of the collision to contact them.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has expressed his condolences to the families of those involved in today’s crash.

The minister said we’ve had “a bad ten days in respect of tragic road accidents” in the State.

“It’s a terribly traumatic event for the families of the people involved. The message has to go out consistently from Government as we head into Christmas that people need to be as careful as possible as they can be on the roads. I just want to extend my condolences to the families concerned,” he said.
