Dissident republican arrests after gardai find rifle in Louth car search

Two men are being held.

TWO MEN WERE arrested yesterday as part of a garda investigation into dissident republican activity in Co Louth.

The first arrest occurred yesterday morning when several garda units stopped and searched a car in Point Road, Dundalk.

A rifle was recovered by gardaí and man in his 40s was arrested.

Later, a follow-up search by gardaí of a house in the area led to the detention of a man in his late 50s.

Both men are still being held by gardaí at Dundalk Garda Station where they can be kept for a maximum of 72 hours.
