Drivers heading back to work warned of breakdowns
Wednesday, 2 January, is expected to be the busiest day for breakdown calls of the year.
A HIGH NUMBER of car breakdowns are expected from drivers heading back to work after the Christmas break. So much so, that 2 January has been renamed ‘Flat Battery Wednesday’ by roadside assistance companies.
Motorists are being warned that it will likely be the busiest day of the year for breakdown calls, with flat batteries expected to be the single biggest cause.
Allianz Global Assistance Ireland, is expecting a 40 per cent increase in calls from stranded motorists on the day. Last year, they received over 600 calls as people returned to work after the holidays and the hours between 8am and 10am were the busiest.
To help prevent your car from breaking down or not starting at all, drive it for 30 minutes before the day you need it as a minimum to re-charge the battery.
Other causes of expected vehicle breakdowns include accidents, flat tyres, running out of fuel, putting petrol in a diesel engine, broken lights and faults caused by alarms or immobilisers.
