Arrest made after man left in critical condition following Drogheda attack

The injured man – in his late 40s – was discovered in a residential area close to the town’s centre this morning.

A MAN HAS been arrested in connection with the discovery of another man with serious injuries on Sandyford Terrace in Drogheda, Co Louth at around 8.30am this morning.

The injured man – aged in his late 40s – has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he remains in a critical condition this afternoon.

He was found on a green area at the junction of Sandyford Terrace and Marion Close, a garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie. It’s believed he suffered head injuries in the assault.

A man in his 30s was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Drogheda Garda Station his afternoon. He can be held for up to 24 hours.

The scene has been sealed off as forensic tests are carried out. Earlier, gardaí appealed for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area this morning to get in touch.
