Apartments evacuated as 12 fire units respond to basement blaze in Drumcondra

The Richmond Hall complex was evacuated as firefighters dealt with a fire in the basement car park.

TWELVE UNITS OF Dublin Fire Brigade responded to a blaze in the basement of an apartment complex in Richmond Road, near Drumcondra this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 4.50am, as a vehicle fire was reported in the basement car park of Richmond Hall.

The complex was evacuated as firefighters arrived.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the blaze had been brought under control, and that the area was still being ventilated.

Several cars have been destroyed as a result of the fire.

A resident of Richmond Hall said the all-clear had been given before 8am and that residents were allowed return to their homes.

An investigation is under way.
