Some Dublin Airport bars closed early yesterday as flights were cancelled

As of 8pm yesterday, 115 flights were cancelled due to Storm Amy.

A NUMBER OF bars at Dublin Airport were closed “earlier than usual” due to the large number of passengers in the terminal yesterday evening.

As of 8pm yesterday, 115 flights were cancelled due to Storm Amy. A further 18 inbound flights were diverted.

Videos taken from inside Terminal 1 yesterday show large crowds of people at the gates as flights are cancelled due to the weather.

Spokesperson for Dublin Airport, Graeme McQueen, said that flight delays due to Storm Amy meant there were more passengers than normal in the terminal yesterday.

“As a contingency measure, given the large number of people, including families and children, a decision was made to close some of the bars in the terminals slightly earlier than usual,” he said

“This would be standard practice on bad weather days which result in delays and cancellations. We thank passengers for their patience on what has been a challenging 24 hours due to the weather.”

Flights at the airport continue to be disrupted today as it faces inclement weather. The airport said as of 8am, 20 flights have been cancelled. There are also some delays to inbound flights.

“Flight operations continued through the night, with a number of flights which couldn’t get away yesterday departing in this morning’s first wave,” it said.

“Wind speeds are due to decrease gradually through the day and most airlines expect to run full schedules.

“However, with further disruption possible, passengers due to fly today should keep in touch with their airline for latest updates on the status of their flight,” the airport said.
