Dublin Airport warns of disruptions to flights due to snowstorms in United States

DUBLIN AIRPORT HAS warned passengers travelling to and from the United States that flights may be impacted by snowstorms.

A “state of emergency” has been declared in New York today as it braces for intensified snowfall.

In a statement, airport spokesperson Graeme McQueen said people flying over the next couple of days should contact their airline directly for the latest updates.

“Passengers flying to the east coast of America over the next 24 hours are advised of possible disruption to flight schedules due to the threat of snowstorms in the New York area,” said McQueen.

Some inbound flights from the east coast of the US – notably New York and Washington – were delayed by a few hours this morning.

“Further disruption is possible over the remainder of the weekend,” McQueen said.

New York City is expecting between two and five inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Six to 11 inches of snow was predicted for upstate New York and Long Island.

New York’s Department of Sanitation has prepared 700 million pounds of salt to treat icy roads.

Airports in New York and Chicago were near the top of FlightAware’s rankings on its “Misery Map,” which tracks the spread of flight delays and cancelations.

Yesterday, New York’s three area airports – John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) – accounted for 850 flight cancelations, according to the website.

More than 40 million Americans are under winter storm warnings or weather advisories, plus another 30 million under flood or storm advisories in California, where a so-called atmospheric river has brought a deluge of rain.
