Fianna Fáil to attempt constitutional ban on corporate donations to political parties

Micheál Martin has claimed that the government has missed its deadline to act on the recommendations of the Moriarty report in relation to corporate donations.

FIANNA FÁIL WILL introduce its own “formal constitutional ban” on corporate donations to the Dáil in order to try and embarrass the government over its alleged lack of action.

The opposition party leader, Micheál Martin, has claimed that the government has missed its deadline of four weeks to act on the recommendations of the Moriarty tribunal report in relation to corporate donations, reports The Sunday Times.

He says his party now intends to introduce bills of its own to the Dáil before the summer recess that would eventually ban donations.

Martin believes there should be “no need for delay” on this  issue and proposes introducing two bills over the next week that would first force full disclosure of corporate donations and would eventually constitutionally ban them by the end of the year.
