Firefighters save 300 sheep after hay shed catches fire in Down

The hay is being removed by a telehandler to help extinguish the fire.

SOME 300 SHEEP have been brought to safety after a fire broke out in Co Down.

Emergency services attended the scene of the blaze in the early hours of this morning, still extinguishing the fire at 6.30am.

In a statement, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement that hay had caught fire.

“A large fire is ongoing at a hay shed at Cascum Road, Banbridge,” they said.

“Initially, 300 sheep in the shed were led to safety.

“The fire is in hay, which is being removed by a telehandler to help extinguish the fire.”
