First Dates Ireland is here and it looks pretty good
Charming, funny, cringey and very Irish.
TODAY, A SELECT bunch of lucky souls got an early glimpse at the highly anticipated Irish version of First Dates.
The show has been a smash hit on Channel 4, and an Irish version, produced by Coco Television, will start on Thursday night on RTÉ 2.
To say we’ve all been apprehensive is an understatement, with cringe levels anticipated to be sky high, and an assumption that at least half of the participants would find out that they’d gone to the Gaeltacht/Courtown/playschool with their dates.
However, a screening for a group of journalists today has laid some fears to rest…
DailyEdge.ie visited the set during filming and saw how it all worked, with one date being filmed at a time, and six dates staggered over a day of filming.
Coco TV’s Anna Nolan has revealed that they received 800 phone calls in a day-and-a-half when the programme was announced, and she said that a lot of heart and soul went into matching the couples:
We found out their likes and dislikes and then got a big room and plastered the information on the walls. You genuinely try and matchmake. There’s no point in putting two people together for the sake of drama or arguments or clashes. You genuinely put them together for love.
She also revealed that “a lot of the dates worked”.
