Miss Mammy's dinners but can't afford a flight home? This new site can help...

FlyThemHome.com was set up so friends, family or people abroad can set up a ‘Flight Fund’ page in order to raise money to buy a ticket home.

LAST OCTOBER, CIARA Ryan was talking to an old school friend in Central America who was dying to come home but couldn’t afford a flight.

“I thought wouldn’t it be great if all her friends could each donate a little towards her flight. A little from many would amount to a lot, affording her the opportunity to purchase a flight home,” explains Ryan.

This is where she got the idea to set up FlyThemHome.com – a website where friends, family or people abroad can set up a ‘Flight Fund’ page in order to raise money to buy a ticket home.

Only people with a deep link will be able to access the page and it will look like this:

Although the website is a little over a week old, with around 300,000 Irish emigrants and The Gathering taking place this year, Ryan believes it is something that will be used by many to visit loved ones.

She will earn money through advertising and taking a “very small percentage” of all the funds raised.

“This is a simple and very cheap way to reunite emigrants with the people who love them most,” said Ciara.
