4 events for... keen runners (and walkers) looking for great atmosphere

On your marks, get set, go!

WHETHER YOU COULD run 10km in your sleep or you struggle to walk up two flights of stairs without gasping for air, everyone can benefit from signing up for a fun-filled run (or walk).

From getting covered in powdered paint to enjoying the beautiful sights of Killarney, these four atmosphere-packed events are sure to see you through to the finish line…

1. VHI Women’s Mini Marathon

When: 2 June

Where: starting on Fitzwilliam Street Upper, Dublin 2

The largest all-women’s event of its kind in the world, few events match the atmosphere of the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon. The event covers 10km throughout Dublin city, and you can walk or jog if you don’t fancy running.

2. Run Killarney

When: 20 July

Where: starting at Molls Gap for the half marathon, and at the Gleneagle Hotel for the 10km route.

The world’s self-proclaimed “most beautiful road race”, Run Killarney comprises two events: a 10km run and a half marathon. Both routes go through Muckross House and Killarney National Park. The 10km event is open to people at all levels of running experience, as well as walkers.

3. Colour Dash

When: throughout the summer

Where: Galway, Limerick, Cork and Dublin

A 5km route, each Colour Dash event is in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Participants will be covered in powdered paint at each marker, with the different colours used representing a different cancer. People of all ages are welcome at the event, once they can cover 5km walking or running.

4. Summer Solstice Run

When: 21 June

Where: Lees Road, Ennis, Co Clare

Taking place on, you guessed it, the summer solstice, this event is in its first year. It covers 10km and is open to both runners and walkers, and will take participants through peaceful country roads on the longest day of the year.
