Further information sought over murder of Siobhan Stapleton

The 51-year-old was found outside her family home with serious head injuries and died while being taken to hospital.

GARDAÍ IN KILKENNY are appealing for information concerning the murder of Siobhan Stapleton in Thomastown, Co Kilkenny on 25 May.

The 51-year-old was discovered at her home outside Glebe Lodge Kilfane at lunchtime on 25 May with serious head injuries.

She died while being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for treatment.

Niall Stapleton, 31, of Kilfane, Thomastown was arrested on 29 May and has been charged in connection with her death. He has been identified as the son of the deceased and has been remanded in custody to appear against in court on 19 June. The court was told this week that he has been receiving medical treatment since his arrest and has a history of mental illness, according to the Irish Independent and the Irish Times.

Gardaí are appealing for further information about Siobhan Stapleton’s death and are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have been on the road between Thomastown and Gowran on Friday 25 May between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
