Man dies in Galway car crash

The crash happened on the R363 yesterday afternoon.

A MAN IN his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash in Galway yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle, the man was fatally injured when his vehicle left the road at Islandcase in Ballygar at about 1.30pm.

There was one passenger in the car – a woman in her 40s – and she has been taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe. Her injuries have been described as non-life threatening.

The R363 has been reopened following forensic exams.

An appeal has been made for anyone with information to contact the local garda station or the confidential line on 1800 666 111.

Since the start of the year, 134 people have died on Irish roads, up 20 from the same time in 2015.

Of those, 63 have been drivers.
