Second teenager arrested in relation to paper factory fire

Three teenagers have been arrested in relation to the incident. Two remain in custody, one has been released.

GARDAÍ IN DROGHEDA have arrested a second teenager in relation to the fire that destroyed a paper factory.

A 17-year-old male was arrested earlier today by gardaí in the Drogheda area shortly before noon today.

He remains in custody and is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Dundalk Garda Station.

A third boy, aged 14, was also arrested in connection with the incident. However he has since been released without charge.

The Dawn paper premises, which is a family run business, caught fire last night.

At around 9.30pm, gardaí and fire services attended the scene of the fire in Donore Industrial Estate in the town.

A number of units from Louth and Meath Fire Services worked through the night to bring the fire under control.

There are no reports of any injuries.

RTÉ reports that fire units remain at the scene today and a technical examination of the building is yet to take place.

Speaking to RTÉ News Ged Nash TD said the fire was “devastating blow” to the family and the 30 people who worked in the business.
