THE MOTHER OF THREE children found dead at a flat in Edinburgh has been charged with their murder, the Independent reports.
The bodies of Gianluca, 8, Augustino, 8, and Cecilia Riggi, 5, were found after reports of an explosion at their home. Police later said they found no evidence of an explosion or gas leak.
The children’s mother, Theresa Riggi, fell two stories from the building and was found by emergency services on the street outside. She remains in stable condition in hospital.
Riggi had been involved in a legal battle with the children’s father for their custody. Her husband had reported Riggi and his children missing on 11 July after she left their home and he was unable to contact her.
Riggi and the children were finally traced to the Edinburgh apartment on July 21.
THE MOTHER OF three young children who died in an apparent gas explosion at an Edinburgh flat yesterday is to be questioned by police.
The children have been named as eight-year-old twins, Gianluca and Augustino Riggi, and their sister Cecilia, who was three.
Their mother, Theresa – who had been involved in a legal battle with the children’s father over the question of their custody – was injured in the incident, and is recovering in hospital, where she is expected to begin helping police piece together what happened.

Post-mortem examinations will be used by police to determine whether to launch a murder investigation. Reports today suggested the three children were already dead when a small fire broke out in the building.
Police confirmed there was no evidence of a gas leak in the flat.
A spokesman for the Lothian and Borders force said:
The deaths are suspicious and a criminal and forensic investigation is under way. The results of the post-mortems are awaited to determine the cause of deaths.
The children’s father has been interviewed by police but is said not to be a suspect.
One neighbour told the Guardian he saw a woman plunge off the balcony. The 21-year-old, who did not want to be named, said he was in his living room, next door to the flat, when he heard screaming.
It was really bad big screaming – the sort of screaming you would only do if a death or something very, very bad had happened.
He smelt gas, and asked a handyman who was doing some work for him to investigate what happened.
When the handyman came back out he was crying. I don’t know what he saw – I don’t want to know. I came back out and she was standing on the third-floor balcony. She was holding her arms, like she was already injured. She was crying and screaming. There were about five of us standing saying to [her] ‘don’t do it, don’t jump’.
Then she jumped off. My neighbour tried to catch her and she kind of landed on his arms. I think he’s a bit bruised but okay. She was lying on the floor and I left the scene, it was just too much. I don’t think she was jumping to save herself.
THREE PRIMARY school children in Edinburgh, Scotland, have died in a suspected gas explosion. Two boys and a girl were killed in the Slateford Road area of Edinburgh, just before 3pm. A woman was also injured in the incident and is being treated in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
TWO PEOPLE HAVE been killed in a gas explosion in LA. Both were workers at a welding business, which was levelled by the explosion. One person was thrown from the building, and the other accidentally made contact with a fallen power line. A third person is missing.
THE PRIVATISATION OF parts of Dublin’s bus network initially proved controversial. Now, British-owned firm Go-Ahead, which won a contract in 2017 to run 24 routes previously operated by Dublin Bus, has been criticised for failing to meet its targets.
Almost half of services operated by the company have so far failed to meet punctuality targets set out in the company’s contract with the National Transport Authority.
Figures obtained by TheJournal.ie also show the NTA received more than 4,000 complaints in relation to Go-Ahead since the start of the year, almost half of which related to late services or buses failing to show up.
Go-Ahead is now set to be fined more than €30,000 for the failings.
The problems have sparked concerns over privatisation and what it means for the future of Irish transport.
“It confirms our worst fears about privatisation, and the government should review the decision to put these routes out to tender,” People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd-Barrett said.
