LOOKING FOR A home that’s truly out of the ordinary? Gate Lodge at Glenart Castle will let you own a piece of Irish architectural history. Standing at the original entrance to the historic estate near Woodenbridge in Wicklow, this beautifully restored period home blends Gothic charm, heritage craftsmanship and modern comfort in one of the county’s most idyllic places.
Dating from around 1890, the lodge was commissioned by William Proby, Earl of Carysfort. More than a century later, it still stands as an example of Victorian estate architecture, as it has kept many of its original features. It has been renovated over the years, however, to create a unique home.
Inside, the spaces are filled with character. A striking circular entrance porch, finished with classic black and white chequerboard tiles, sets the tone for a home where period details have been carefully preserved throughout. The welcoming sitting room combines warmth and elegance, with solid timber flooring and a wood-burning stove creating an inviting focal point.
The adjoining kitchen and breakfast room overlooks the back garden and offers a blend of traditional styling and everyday practicality, featuring shaker cabinetry, mosaic splashbacks and tiled flooring. A family bathroom on the ground floor completes the layout.
