Government aiming for ‘digital wallet’ of life milestones by 2030

The plan sets out a roadmap to ensuring that all key public services are available online by 2030.

THE GOVERNMENT WANTS to introduce a “digital wallet” to store key milestones in people’s lives for easier access.

The development comes as Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers secured government approval for the Digital Public Services Plan, which will be published next week.

The plan sets out a roadmap to ensuring that all key public services are available online by 2030.

All departments are now being asked to review existing legislation and prioritise amendments or new laws to support the digital transition.

A government spokesperson said a key aspect of the plan is the “digitalisation of life events” and the development of a digital wallet.

The spokesperson said this would ensure “key milestones in people’s lives” such as starting school, learning to drive, starting a business, becoming a parent or retiring are “all easier to manage and access for citizens”.

The goal of the plan is to reduce administrative burden and improve “quality of life” through more integrated service delivery.

A specific funding stream, the Public Services Digital Transformation Fund, will support the transition of public services.
