Two guns have been found and a man and woman arrested - at houses in Athlone

Two firearms were recovered in the search of two houses.

AN 18-YEAR-OLD woman and a 24-year-old man were arrested yesterday after two guns and a quantity of drugs were found at two houses in Athlone.

Gardaí say they searched two houses in Goldsmith View as part of ongoing investigations into the sale of drugs in the area.

During the raids, cannabis resin and cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €10,000 was found as well as other items gardaí described as drug paraphernalia.

Two firearms were also recovered during the search and they are being examined by gardaí.

Two people were arrested after the searches, a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

The man has been charged, while the woman was released without charge.
