WHETHER IT’S BY a lake, a river or the sea, living close to the water is something many people lust after.
This week we’re looking at homes around the country with easy access to the water – from a five-bed with its own lake in Westmeath to a bungalow on an island in the West.
With views of Bella Lake to the front, the Comeragh Mountains to the rear and surrounded by the beautiful Waterford countryside, Rowantree House boasts an enviable location. The five-bed property is situated on an elevated site of two acres, which includes landscaped gardens and mature trees.
Rowantree House spans 2,960 sq ft of bright and spacious accommodation, including a two-storey self-contained unit with one bedroom and its own entrance. The property is less than a 10-minute drive from the fishing village of Dunmore East, while Waterford city is 15 minutes away.
Coming to the market in turn-key condition, Ashcroft is a six-bedroom property with a beautiful interior. It measures just shy of 3,000 sq ft and comes complete with attractive features and finishes throughout, including wood flooring, wall panelling and a large kitchen with ample storage space.
Ashcroft boasts impressive gardens to the front and to the rear, where there’s an extensive west-facing lawn and patio area. The property is in an ideal location for families, with Shanagarry Beach just a 15-minute walk away and Shanagarry National School just a 10-minute walk away. Midleton town can be reached by car in 20 minutes.
If you’re looking to take a break from reality, this four-bed bungalow on Inishmacatreer Island might do the trick. Situated on the shore of Lough Corrib, the property is connected to the mainland by a causeway and is a 20-minute drive from Ballinrobe town.
The accommodation is bright and well-kept, with beautiful views of the lake from many of the rooms. Features include a newly fitted stove in the sitting room, timber flooring and a new bespoke kitchen and dining area. A patio area to the side of the property provides the perfect spot to enjoy the views, while there are manicured lawns to the front, side and rear.
Located on a private site of two acres, this five-bed property is one-of-a-kind. The grounds include a large fishing lake, an apple orchard, several sheds and garages, a granny flat and a gym. To top it all off, there’s a mock ‘historic house’ which acts as a BBQ and dining area.
As for the property itself, it was built in 2008 and features a light-filled interior with large living areas and solid wood flooring throughout. A feature sunroom overlooks the lake and gives the feel of a countryside retreat. Moate town is a 10-minute drive away, while Athlone can be reached in 20 minutes.
