Here’s how much money tourists spent in Ireland last month (and what they spent it on)

Accommodation accounted for 33.2% of tourists’ spending.

TOURISTS WHO VISITED Ireland last month collectively spent a total of €881.9m on their trips to the Emerald Isle.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show how much tourists were spending last month, what they spent it on, and how it compares to previous years.

The total amount added up to €881.9m including travel fares, or €646.5m excluding fares.

Day-to-day spending on costs like eating out, entrance fees to activities, and public transport was where the largest chunk of that money went in the Irish economy, adding up to €320.4m, which is more than one-third (36.3%) of the total spending.

Accommodation accounted for 33.2% of the costs at €292.8m.

Fares cost €235.4m (26.7%) while prepayments for items purchased in advance, such as car hire or pre-booked tickets, made up €33.3m (3.8%).

The average visitor from abroad in June spent €1,347 on their trip to Ireland – €360 on their fare, €51 on prepayments, €447 on accommodation, and €490 on day-to-day expenses.

In comparison, in June 2024, the average foreign visitor spent €415 on fares, €45 on pre-payments, €458 on accommodation and €519 respectively, which added up to a total of €1,437.

There were 654,500 visitors from abroad who completed a trip to Ireland in June 2025, which was down 2% compared with June 2024 but up by 6% compared with June 2023.

The average length of stay for foreign overnight visitors was 7.9 nights, an increase on the average of 7.3 nights in both June 2024 and June 2023.

Just over one-third of visitors came from Great Britain (34%), while visitors from the United States made up one-quarter.
