Ethical homewares from Tomorrows

Tomorrows founder Heather Barnes launched her brand last year after working in the UN where her work involved supporting small-scale producers and designers to achieve success. She has gone on to create Tomorrows – a platform selling beautiful homewares while partnering directly with makers to ensure fair wages and support for traditional craftsmanship. Heather has just announced her new tabletop collection for Autumn. The range includes handspun, naturally-dyed indigo napkins from Tensira in Guinea, cool handmade ceramics by Ugandan studio Byentaro Ceramics and hand-dipped beeswax candles from Kenya. The new Considered collection at Dunnes Stores

We love designer Helen James’ Considered collection at Dunnes Stores for its understated elegance, tactility and practicality. This season’s collection is all about natural warmth and laid-back elegance and features pieces designed to elevate the everyday including honey-toned mango wood furniture. These pieces are complemented by textured jute rugs and woven footstools – perfect for adding character and comfort to your home.  Finishing touches come in the form of hand-glazed ceramics and striking LED lighting perfect for adding an ambient glow as autumn nights draw in. dunnesstores.com

Make a beautiful basket for your home

Storm Eowyn badly damaged the studio of basket maker and willow grower Diane Southey, founder of Saille Baskets, and she has been working hard all year to rectify the damage to her workshop and polytunnel. Not only does Diane make fabulous handmade Moses baskets, classic market baskets and nifty ‘lunch pouches’ but she also runs basketry courses so people can learn how to make things themselves. Her upcoming courses take place at Ardfert Community Centre in Co. Kerry where participants can learn to make a ‘Honeypot’ or asymmetrical basket, a bread or fruit ‘ciseog’, a large Catalan platter or an obelisk and birdfeeder. She also offers private classes in her own home on request. To find out more and to make a booking go to saillebaskets.com.
