Independent TD Barry Heneghan says he is joining Gaza flotilla

Heneghan said the flotilla is scheduled to set sail on Wednesday, 24 September, and will deliver essential supplies such as baby food and medicine.

INDEPENDENT TD BARRY Heneghan has said he has travelled to Sicily in Italy to join an international flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He said he is travelling alongside Irish author Naoise Dolan and other international participants, including other EU politicians.

The first-time TD was elected to the Dáil for the Dublin Bay North constituency last year.

In a statement today, Heneghan said the flotilla is scheduled to set sail on Wednesday, 24 September, and will deliver essential supplies such as baby food and medicine.

Heneghan said: “This mission is about delivering life-saving aid and standing with humanity and the people of Gaza. UN bodies have warned of famine, repeated displacement, and the collapse of basic services. The world cannot look away.”

He said the opportunity came about as he was asked if he was willing to participate in the aid movement after previously showing interest.

“The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry has concluded that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

“The international community has a responsibility to act.”
