Irish tourists among those injured in Barcelona bus accident

The Department of Foreign Affairs has yet to be contacted by any Irish citizens in relation to the incident.

Updated 3.42pm

AT LEAST 24 people, including two Irish nationals, were injured earlier today when a coach crashed in Barcelona on its way to the airport, the Spanish emergency services said.

The bus crashed at about 3.10am during heavy rain, an emergency services spokesman said.

Ten people remain in hospital, including two women aged 51. Their conditions are described as serious but not life threatening. The other eight, all aged between 18 and 67 years old, are stable.

Some of the passengers were trapped under the bus when it overturned. They were all freed by firefighters.

The coach was travelling on a ring road near the waterfront as it made its way to El Prat airport, and all of the victims were taken to hospitals across the city.
