Arrest made after man shot dead by two masked men in Derry

The 48-year-old suspect is also being questioned about a shooting incident in Feeny in 2004,

A 48-YEAR-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of 38-year-old James McConnell in Derry in 2009.

The suspect was detained in Dungiven and has been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for questioning.

James McConnell, better known as Jim, was shot by two masked men at his home in Woodland Avenue in Derry on 11 February 2009.

The 48-year-old suspect is also being questioned about a shooting incident in Feeny in 2004 when a shotgun was fired at a house. Detectives are also conducting two searches in the Dungiven area.

Police are appeal to anyone with information about Mr McConnell’s murder to contact detectives at Maydown on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, people can call the independent charity Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111.
