A SENIOR KINAHAN gang member has given information to gardaí about the murder of Gary Hutch.
The man, who is closely linked to the Kinahan family went to a city centre station last month and handed over information which could help officers.
This intelligence was then passed on to police in Spain who later made an arrest.
There was another arrest in the Gary Hutch investigation in Spain this week. However, the information given was not connected to that investigation.
Gary Hutch was shot dead in the Miraflores area of the Costa Del Sol in September 2015.
Hutch was killed after the Kinahan gang suspected he was an informer.
There have been a number of high profile arrests recently.
The most significant was that Fat Freddie Thompson was held in relation to the murder of David Douglas.
Potential double-cross
Senior garda sources have told TheJournal.ie that the man, who is from Dublin city, gave information which allowed them to make a breakthrough in the case.
However, investigators are now probing the reasoning behind a major player in gangland Dublin giving information on an execution sanctioned by his own bosses.
One avenue of investigation is that the information, while helpful, was to confuse detectives as to the man’s motives.
However, they are not discounting the fact that the Hutch murder investigation, which started the gangland war, is something the Kinahan mob want dispensed with, even if it means the conviction, correct or otherwise, of one of their lower-level workers.
Garda sources have said they have informed Spanish police about the potential subterfuge.
The Kinahan gang member has been under surveillance by officers for the past number of months.
A number of Criminal Assets Bureau investigations are ongoing in relation to this person.
Gary Hutch’s murder in Miraflores on the Costa Del Sol last September sparked the Kinahan/Hutch feud which has so far claimed the lives of 10 men.
