A MAN WAS killed when the car he was driving crashed into a wall in Co Louth early this morning.

The crash happened at about 12.20 am on the Dundalk to Castleblaney Road about 5 km outside Dundalk at Rathmore.

Gradaí say that the 26-year-old driver was the sole occupant of the car and was critically injured in the crash before he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s body has since been removed to Louth County Hospital in Dundalk and the road has been closed to allow for an examination of the scene.

Local diversions are in place and gardaí are asking any witnesses to contact them at Dundalk Garda Station or any garda station.
