4. The HSE is to pay Mary Malee, a 14-year-old girl from Mayo, an interim settlement of €1.5 million. It is alleged that she suffered permanent and irreversible brain damage at birth in Mayo General Hospital in 1999.

The judge’s decision on whether the Anglo pair will serve jail time is expected this afternoon. Pat Whelan and Willie McAteer were ‘at the centre’ of the illegal Maple 10 loan deal, the court was told a sentencing hearing this morning. However, David Drumm was the ‘main participant’ according to the garda giving evidence.
