1. WELL, that didn’t last long. There was a glimmer of hope for Ukraine vs Russia this morning when the Ukranian president Petro Poroshenko released a statement saying that he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had agreed on a “permanent ceasefire”. One hour later, he was taking it back.

2. ONE thing that is definitely not cancelled is the country’s rail service this weekend. Planned strike action over the All-Ireland senior finals has been averted. Lovely hurling.

3. EVERYTHING will be okay now – the Cabinet is back off its holiers today and meeting about the Irish defence forces in Golan Heights, what they will do in the Budget next month and all manner of other pressing issues.

4. REMEMBER how Panti Bliss appeared at an ‘all-inclusive’ parade in Queens, NYC this year while the ‘official’ Manhattan St Patrick’s Day parade continued to ban participants carrying gay rights signs?
