Macroom bypass in Cork reopens after multiple traffic collisions closed it down

This morning’s rain froze in places, causing road conditions to deteriorate.

LAST UPDATE | 6 Jan

THE MACROOM BYPASS in west Cork has reopened after being closed all afternoon due to multiple traffic collisions.

Cork County Council confirmed that it had closed the road after today’s rainfall “reduced effectiveness” of gritting and treatment of the road, amid icy conditions.

In a statement this evening, the council said the bypass has now reopened in both directions.

It added: “Given recent freezing conditions, Cork County Council advises motorists to drive with care.

“The council will continue to treat priority routes and other badly affected roads this evening and overnight,” it said.
