Man arrested in connection with fatal Edenderry arson attack released without charge

The man was arrested yesterdy morning and questioned at a garda station in the Midlands.

A MAN WHO was arrested yesterday in connection with the double murder of a four-year-old boy and his great aunt in Edenderry last month has been released without charge.

Tadhg Farrell had been visiting his grandmother and his great aunt Mary Holt (60) at a house in Castleview Park, Edenderry, when the attack took place shortly before 7.45pm on 6 December.

Gardaí said the bodies of Tadhg and Mary were later found in the front room of the house, where the fire had been deliberately started.

Tadhg’s grandmother, Pauline Holt, was also in the property at the time and suffered serious injuries.

A man, aged in his late 20s, was arrested yesterday morning and detained at a garda station in the Midlands in connection with the fatal arson attack.

Gardaí said in a statement this afternoon that he has since been released without charge.

“A file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” a garda spokesperson said.

The murder investigation into the double murder continues.

A man who is a prisoner in the Midlands Prison had been arrested during the investigation, but he was since released without charge.

A number of other prisoners have also been questioned by gardaí.
