Man arrested after motorcyclist critically injured in collision with car in Mayo

The collision occurred in Newport, Co Mayo yesterday afternoon.

A MOTORCYCLIST REMAINS in critical condition following a collision with a car in Co Mayo yesterday afternoon.

The collision occurred shortly before 5pm at Castlebar Road, Newport, Co Mayo.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, where the motorcyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was discovered with serious injuries.

He received medical treatment and was conveyed to Mayo University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

A man in his 60s was later arrested in connection with the collision.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Anyone with any information should contact Westport garda station on (098) 50230, the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station,” a garda spokesperson said.

Investigations are ongoing, the spokesperson added.
