Man dies in garda custody in Cork

The man became ill in Midleton garda station this morning and was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

A MAN IN his mid-forties died in garda custody in Cork this morning.

The man, who is Irish, was arrested in Midleton at around 6.30 am today. Shortly after 7 am he became unwell and an ambulance was called. He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he died a short time later.

The matter has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman and they have launched an investigation.

No personal details have been released for the man until all of his family have been notified.
