Sami contracted meningitis W135, a rare strain of the virus.

The Question of Sport star said he decided to speak out after a petition calling for all children, at least up to age 11, to be vaccinated against meningitis B gained over 450,000 signatures.

BBC News reports that the petition was started after two-year-old Faye Burdett died from the illness earlier this week - 11 days after contracting meningitis B.
