LEVALLY COTTAGE IS A home straight from a storybook, and it has a bit of a storied history too.
The four-bedroom home, which overlooks Levally Lake and Nephin Mountain, has had many an impressive owner during the last hundred years.
Among them are its original owner, the Olympic sailor Lord Burghley, who lived there with his wife Diana. Then there’s former Chief Justice Tom O’Higgins, who bought the place as a secluded fishing lodge, according to the Irish Times.
It’s now on sale for €650,000.
Completely remodelled by architect Paul Keogh in 2005, Levally Cottage comes to market in excellent condition, with a modern, fresh interior. The kitchen is open-plan, and features a hardwood worktop and Juncker flooring.
The adjacent dining area has large windows, with spectacular views of the mountains and lake: a perfect place for post-dinner reflection.
There’s a large, cosy living room off the dining room, with an open fire and access through large glass sliding doors to the decking at the rear of the house. This room is one of many with vaulted ceilings, which give an extra feeling of space and lightness.
Of the four bedrooms, three are doubles, the fourth being a sizeable single. The main bedroom suite has incredible views over the lake, access to the rear decked area and an en-suite bathroom, complete with double shower.
The gardens of Levally Cottage link seamlessly with the house, and provide a beautiful oasis with patio walk, plus more astounding views of the lake shore and mountains.
An impressive 12.8 acres of land are included with the sale of the property: it’s a mixture of gardens and pasturage, with plenty of agricultural land for whose who wish to farm here.
Annagh Village is your local stop for the essentials, and it’s located a ten-minute drive away. Westport, Castlebar and Ballina are all approximately a 30-minute drive too.
